Platinum is a crazy material

Even for beginners itīs easy to handle platin. Thereīs almost no oxydation when you solder it, the surface isnīt getting black. Because of this itīs possible to solder frequently without cleaning it. Because of its high melting point you can use the open flame without the fear to melt the platinum. For the same reason it is for beginners also possible to work with thin wires. If you solder it, use ceramics for your base.

Platin has usually a high standard fineness: 960/000. The so-called jewelry-platinum consists of 96 % platin and 4 % copper.

When you solder it, use as little flux as you can.

Platinum is used in the industry, for example in catalytic-converters for exhaust-filter-device in cars. Because of this, thereīs a high price fluctuation.

Itīs very easy to weld fine-gold on platinum. With this technique you can get very attractive contrasts.

With the glow probe (annealing) you can easily find out if the platinum is false, because platinum does not oxydize in an open flame.

Platinum is also very suitable for menīs rings. Platinum can be also used very discreetly. For example, you make a ring out of platin and silver:
